For many people, learning a foreign language is not easy. It takes time, not to mention that it is tiring and frustrating. But do not fret, there are things you can do to make sure that you will be able to study it sans frustration. Here are some tips that will be very useful for you. These will not ensure a no sweat process, but it will help you so that you’ll become a master of the language you choose in no time.

1. Be realistic with what to expect. Know that studying a foreign language is difficult, which means it is perfectly normal if you make mistakes, if you feel awkward and if you feel scared. At first, expect that you will feel a bit different. The language is new to your ear and mind so it is natural to feel weird hearing and speaking it.

2. Distribute your study time. This simply means that you schedule shorter periods of study time. Do not cram and try to study all at once because our brains will retain the information more if you do it that way. Try to study every day, in 15-30 minutes instead of studying everything at night before your class.

3. Practice. Studying anything requires that you practice that craft or profession regularly. In the case of studying a foreign language, it is better if you could talk with penpals who speaks the language. You can also bring flash cards if you are taking a long trip and study it while on the road. Put up a chart in your room and study while you’re relaxing or watch movies in the language you are trying to learn. Doing some of these will train your ear in the language that you’ll just be surprised that you are already understanding it gradually.

4. Make mistakes. Do not be too hard on yourself. It is alright if you answer wrongly in a recitation. It is okay to make mistakes, in fact, it is better that you make it while you’re in the learning process so that you’ll know how to correct it immediately.

5. Ask for help. Do not be shy to approach your teacher. You can also talk to your classmate or ask someone from JuJu to tutor you. Asking for help does not mean that you are dumb, it just means you are determined to learn.

Reading these suggestions will not guarantee that you will be a master of a foreign language. You must follow these and take action. Studying a foreign language is not impossible, it just requires time and dedication from you.
